Waqar Mehdi of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) was elected senator from Sindh without any other candidates running against him.
After Ahmed Saleem Siddiqui and Tariq Mansoor of the MQM asked the returning officer to withdraw their nominations, he was chosen to be a senator.
Nasir Hussain, a provincial minister, said that there are talks going on to bring the MQM into the Sindh government. “Giving the job of administrator and taking the Senate seat is not a deal,” he said.
